Domestic Energy Assessor Academy is a funded, online training programme that will enable you to build the knowledge and skills needed to conduct domestic energy assessments and retrofit assessments.
Upon completion, you'll receive an industry-recognised Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment and a Retrofit Assessment Certificate of Understanding.
Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) visit homes to assess their energy efficiency and produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), which rate properties from A to G and suggest basic improvements.
Retrofit Assessors build on this by conducting more detailed evaluations required for government-backed retrofit projects, including occupancy patterns, building condition, and ventilation risks. Their assessments inform a tailored, whole-house retrofit plan in line with PAS 2035 retrofit standards.
A typical day for a Domestic Energy Assessor or Retrofit Assessor blends property visits with meaningful impact. After reviewing building details and prepping for the day, they travel to homes to carry out assessments – inspecting insulation, heating, and ventilation systems. On site, they collect evidence, create floorplans, and input data into specialist software. Back at their desk, they finalise reports and produce Energy Performance Certificates or retrofit recommendations. Their work directly helps households save energy, reduce costs, and improve comfort.
Participants of Domestic Energy Assessor Academy receive expert guidance and exposure to help obtain employment, but a job is not guaranteed.
